MONTGOMERY, West Virginia -- Golden Bear Athletes of the Week for October 21-27, 2016 were announced Thursday by the WVU Tech Athletic Department. Junior
Douglas Negrete (men's cross country) and sophomore
Ana Monteiro (volleyball) headline this week's awards.
Negrete led the men's cross country squad, who finished 18
th, in the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge October 22. The Chino, California native ran the 8k in 26:43.12 for a 61
st place finish out of 302 competitors.
The son of Andrew and Donna Negrete is majoring in computer science at WVU Tech.
Monteiro combined for 33 digs, 25 kills, three blocks and a service ace in three matches for the Golden Bears last week. The São Paulo, Brazil native now has a total of 356 digs in 2016 to go with 138 kills and 19 service aces.
The daughter of Ana Lúcia Monteiro is majoring in chemical engineering at Tech.
